New York’s Coolest Bowling Alleys

Nov 04th 2014

You may associate bowling with kids birthday parties or guys’ Tuesday night excitement, but bowling is making an activity comeback. Switch up your movie night or expensive dinner with a little five-pin (or ten-pin) fun! To help you out, we’ve found some of New York’s fun, funky bowling alleys. These venues come complete with great food (surprise!) and great music. If travelling with kids, be sure to check the policies beforehand as many of these places are adults-only in the evenings.

Brooklyn Bowl – A cool atmosphere and live music makes this more than just a bowling alley.  The 16-lane venue offers a selection of food by Blue Ribbon and a bar with many local craft beers on tap. www.brooklynbowl.com

Lucky Strike Lanes – Located in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen, Lucky Strike Lanes steps bowling up to a classier level. The main area offers 26 bowling lanes and 11 tournament-quality billiard tables. The venue also has a private event space, complete with four private bowling lanes, called LuXe Lounge.  Shhh, New York Yankee players are often seen here!  www.bowlluckystrike.com

Bowlmor Lanes – Originally opened in 1938, Bowlmor Lanes was reinvented in the mid ‘90s. Video screens cover the walls while the glow-in-the-dark bowling section is always lively. Bowlmor Lanes has two venues in New York City, one in Union Square and one in Times Square. Both have over 40 bowling lanes. Part of the Bowlmor family is Chelsea Piers; the enormous venue formerly known as the 300 Club. www.bowlmor.com

Frames – The 28-lane bowling alley considers itself a “Bowling Lounge.” It includes a private VIP section with lanes for groups for 10-20. There’s lane-side service in addition to the restaurant. When bowlers finish their games, they can move to the dance club to continue the night. www.framesnyc.com

The Gutter – The Gutter considers themselves “a bar with a bowling alley.” The bar has eight vintage, wood bowling lanes, 12 craft brew taps, and live music on weekends. To prove how cool they are, they don’t take reservations so be prepared to wait for a lane.  Note: this is a 21+ venue. www.thegutterbrooklyn.com

Bowling leagues watch out. The amateur (or any level) bowlers are back in town!
