Memorial Day

May 26th 2014

Celebrate and honor the citizens who've served the United States in times of war this Memorial Day at one of the many parades taking place across the city. Marking the unofficial start to the summer and the official start of beach season, New York’s Parks’ Beaches will re-open on Memorial Day and remain open through Labor Day. During the beach season lifeguards are on duty daily from 10am – 6pm. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections, which are marked.

World Science Festival

The 2014 World Science Festival returns to New York this May with an impressive lineup of fifty events over five days. Since it’s launch in 2008 the annual celebration and exploration of science has been deemed a “new cultural institution” by The New York times. In previous years it has hosted an array of famed guests including Stephen Hawking, Live Schreiber, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Yo-Yo Ma, Glenn Close and many more. The festival also welcomes an estimated million visitors annually and produces events around the world.
