Aug 08th 2013

A-tisket, a-tasket, get your picnic basket!

Summer in New York is far too short and that means New Yorkers want to spend as much time outside as possible. So when the sun is shining, eating outdoors becomes a must!

You see it in the movies all the time: friends, family, and lovebirds breaking bread on the grass, and chances are the very same movie scenes that come to mind were filmed in one of New York’s numerous parks. Whether eating on the go and stopping for a rest on a Central Park bench or scoping out the perfect shaded place to lie out a blanket, the options for a picnic in New York are endless. To assist you with your selection we’ve come up with some favorite picnic spots.

Brooklyn Bridge Park

Boasting breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline as well as one of New York’s most historic landmarks, the Brooklyn Bridge Park allows you to have it all. The waterfront park features volleyball courts, running and bicycle paths, a pool, playgrounds and has quickly become one of the city’s most favored sites.

Cherry Hill

Central Park’s Cherry Hill place might be straight out of a postcard, especially in the spring when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. Overlooking the lake and centrally located it provides the ultimate romantic picnic in the park experience.

Bryant Park

Grab one of Nathans Famous hot dogs, just around the corner from New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania and stroll over to Bryant Park. Or choose to have a late night picnic while taking in a flick at the Bryant Park Film Festival. There are free weekly screenings in the park that can provide a one of a kind picnic experience.

Madison Square Park

Madison Square Park is just a 15-minute walk from New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania, providing a tranquil work oasis. Ideal for business travelers looking to work while catching some rays, the park offers free Wi-Fi for public use.

East Green

East Green in Central Park is the perfect place to put down a blanket and let your kids burn off some steam. Located right by a playground and just across the street from the Central Park Zoo, this park is perfect for young families.

While these are all excellent choices, you can always be spontaneous and find your own slice of NYC perfection. With vendors and food trucks all over the city, it’s easy to grab a bite and find your own spot.

Picnics are a wallet friendly activity that is sure to leave you with memories to last a lifetime, so don’t miss out!
