New York Landmark: The Empire State Building

Aug 20th 2013

Recognizable even without King Kong attached!

The Empire State Building has entertained the likes of Queen Elizabeth, Fidel Castro, KISS, Ronald McDonald and Justin Beiber along with millions more. It's just a part of the job when you are one of the world’s most iconic buildings. As The World’s Most Famous Office Building, the Empire State Building is an international landmark, a cherished New York attraction and frequent host to marriage proposals!

People all over the world can quickly identify this skyscraper, thanks in large part to Hollywood filmmakers, as it has been featured in over 250 films to date. From action flicks including King Kong and Spider Man to the romantic comedies such as Sleepless in Seattle and Something Borrowed, the Empire State Building has become immortalized on the silver screen.

It reaches heights of more than a quarter of a mile above the New York skyline and offers a bird’s eye view of the city below from the 102nd floor observation deck.

Since opening its doors in 1931, it’s been seen as a must do for visitors to the city, and has been named one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. In recent years, the Empire State Building has added LED tower lights and themes them according to key milestones, holidays, and events. In the near future the tower is scheduled to honor the opening of the US Open with green, blue and yellow sparkle lights and Labor Day with red, white and blue.

To find out what colors will be lighting up the skyline during your visit, be sure to check out the schedule at

Located just a short walk from Hotel Pennsylvania  - you can even see the tower from the hotel – take your vacation to new heights and book the Empire State Package for your birds eye view!
