Music festivals have become an essential part of summer across the country, and New York is certainly no exception. Hosting an array of genres that mirror the city’s musical diversity, the festival scene in NYC has gained momentum in recent years and is showing no signs of slowing down.
Simply put, New York ‘is’ music. It’s the birthplace of hip-hop and the launching pad for many of the world’s biggest artists past, present and future. So with that being said, of course the music festival scene is off the charts!

Electric Daisy Carnival – May 24-25, 2014
Electric Daisy Carnival is a well-established electronic dance music (EDM) festival that expanded to the tri-state area in 2011. This two-day festival is set to take place at MetLife Stadium, where the Super Bowl was held earlier this year. Showcasing premiere EDM performances across multiple stages, this year’s stellar lineup of approximately 70 artists includes Afrojack, Calvin Harris, Tiësto and more.
Governors Ball Music Festival – June 6-8, 2014
It’s NYC’s newest and most popular summer music festival. This three-day event is now held on Randall’s Island and has proven itself on the festival circuit as the show that will go on after weathering a tropical storm in 2013. Featuring an array of genres, this year’s line up showcases 80 performers including, OutKast, Jack White, Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, and numerous others. Since its start in 2011 some of the industry’s biggest names have taken the stage and it only seems to be growing in popularity. Where California has Coachella, New York has the Governors Ball.
Electric Zoo Festival – August 29-31, 2014
This Labor Day weekend, end your summer with the drop of the base at this annual electronic music festival. Boasting the world’s top DJs and live acts this three day festival spread across four stages is the ultimate end of summer party.
CMJ Music Marathon – October 21-25, 2014
Offering the best in raw talent, you’ll be able to claim you saw some of the tomorrow’s biggest names before they were known. It’s a music marathon at its best; lasting an entire week this festival gives visitors the opportunity to catch numerous acts spread out over their visit.
