TD Five Boro Bike Tour – May 4, 2014
May is Bike Month so there’s no better time to explore the city on two wheels. Kicking off the month is the annual Five Boro Bike Tour on May 4, 2014. Inviting 32,000 cyclists of all ages, the tour spans all five boroughs in the course of 40 miles and five bridges. Brooklyn Flea – May 4, 2014
It’s that time of year when the Brooklyn Flea comes back outside on Saturdays in Fort Green and Sundays in Williamsburg. Since its launch in 2008, it’s become one of the city’s top attractions. It features hundreds of vendors for antique and repurposed furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles, jewelry, art, crafts, and food. This New York attraction has become an institution in just 6 short years with international press and has been ranked one of the world’s best markets or antiques shows. Freize New York – May 9-12, 2014
For the third year, the London art fair returns to Randalls Island. From May 9-12, 2014 under a temporary tent structure 190 of the world’s leading contemporary art galleries will set up shop. Visitors can buy or simply admire art by over 1,000 of the world’s best artists. There will also be site-specific works that have been commissioned by 6 contemporary artists. The Manhattan Cocktail Classic – May 9-13, 2014
Returning for its fifth year, Manhattan Cocktail Classic is a festival, conference and party all rolled into one, encompassing nearly 100 events from May 9-13, 2014. Beach Season Opening Day – May 26, 2014
Marking the unofficial start to the summer and the official start of beach season, New York’s Parks’ Beaches will re-open on Memorial Day and remain open through Labor Day. During the beach season lifeguards are on duty daily from 10am – 6pm. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections, which are marked. World Science Festival – May 28-June 1, 2014
The 2014 World Science Festival returns to New York this May with an impressive lineup of fifty events over five days. Since its launch in 2008, The New York Times has deemed the annual celebration and exploration of science a “new cultural institution”.
