Commemorate Independence Day like a New Yorker!
Patriotism is alive and well in the city that never sleeps and New York shows it in a big way. Fourth of July festivities will be taking place all over the country, but New York has some of the best events to offer, including a spectacular fireworks display compliments of the department store, Macy’s (located just around the corner from Hotel Penn).
The fireworks show is set to be the largest 4th of July display in the nation with 40,000 choreographed fireworks over the Hudson River. This is a free event for the public and there is over 2 miles of public viewing space for spectators. Macy’s has been producing a jaw dropping show for 38 incredible years in celebration of the nation’s birthday, and in honor of the 200th anniversary of the “ Star Spangled Banner”, the musical score will feature the Charlie Daniels Band, Idina Menzel and more.
This year’s fireworks show will be hosted by TV personality Nick Cannon and will feature superstar performers Ariana Grande, Hunter Hayes, Miranda Lambert and Lionel Richie. However, the performers will only be visible via television as there is not an area open to the general public. Three million spectators are expected to watch the show in person while millions more watch from home via television.
Other popular activities for New Yorkers and visitors to celebrate the nation’s birthday include picnics in the park, summer fun at the beach, and more. Here are some other events taking place this July 4th:
- Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest
- 4th of July Harbor Cruise
- 4th Annual Indie-Pendence Day Improv Festival
- 2nd Annual 4th of July beach party at Coney Island
- July 4th Revolutionary war nighttime walking tour
July 4th is a good time no matter where you are but celebrating it in New York is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression!
