Ahoy ‘landlubbers’, Fleet Week New York is back!
The Nation’s finest Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will be dropping anchor in the New York City Harbor for the week of May 21 through 28, 2014. Approximately 1,500 seafarers will make port in the city to take part in numerous events in celebration of their service to the country. While some events will be closed to the public, Fleet Week is a time for citizens and visitors to New York to ‘sea’ maritime life firsthand.
Now in its 26th year, it’s a fun time for all with events including:
- A music festival featuring local talent
- Music performances across the city by sailors and marines
- Ground and aerial demonstrations
- Ship tours
- And more
The Parade of Sail 2014, which marks the official beginning of Fleet Week, features a parade of ships entering the New York Harbor. This is one sight not to be missed! For the best viewing, the public can watch from Hudson River Park Battery Park, Red Hook and more. The ships are set to float through the Harbor between 9am-11am on May 21.
Taking place over the Memorial Day weekend, this time-honored tradition is the perfect way to show appreciation for their sea services and kick off the summer. For more information on Fleet Week activities and events, visit www.fleetweeknewyork.com.
