Classic New York Pizza

Jun 14th 2013

When it comes to food you have to eat while staying in New York, pizza is at the top of the list. But with so many options it can get a little overwhelming deciding which pie to try. Here are some popular picks for the best pizza places in New York.

Joe’s Pizza: for the best example of a classic New York slice of pizza, you can’t go wrong with Joe’s. Featured in the memorable opening scene from Spider-Man 2 (there are signs in the restaurant that say “you saw us in Spider-Man”), it’s not only a place to get a delicious lunch but it’s also a piece (or should we say slice) of New York movie history.

Patsy’s: a New York institution since 1933, Patsy’s has been one of the city’s most popular pizzerias for decades. It was even a popular hangout for Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra back in the day! Whether you want a quick slice to go, or would prefer to sit in the restaurant, you can enjoy some pizza from their coal-fired oven.

Lombardi’s: opened in 1905, Lombardi’s has been recognized by the Pizza Hall of Fame as the first pizzeria in the US. This is everything that New Yorkers (and visitors) have come to expect from a Manhattan slice.

John’s Pizzeria: with locations throughout Manhattan, John’s Pizzeria is easy to grab for any pizza fan visiting the city. In fact, there is a location right in Times Square (in a deconsecrated church, no less)!

Motorino Pizzeria Napoletana: to try something a little newer, go with Motorino Pizzeria Napoletana. This recent (and very welcome) addition to the New York pizza scene offers up Neopolitan-style pizza from the Belgian-born, French trained chef, and has become an immediate favorite amongst pizza pie aficionados.
